We’re proud to present the findings from our Digital Insights 2024 Study. Spanning across industries, these discussions provided a client lens into the role of their website in achieving current and future organisational strategic objectives. These are the most common challenges we heard:

Internal capacity

We found that a barrier to increasing resources was funding constraints and budget allocation.  Many organisations have to work within smaller budgets, which are usually shared across marketing channels & initiatives. As a result, organisations are having to make strategic decisions around where to invest for maximum impact.  Often there is no single dedicated website role.

Dynamic websites

Participants expressed difficulties in keeping up with the fast-paced changes in the web landscape, noting that the rapid evolution of digital trends requires frequent reassessment of the website's role and functionality. To keep websites relevant amidst changing services and priorities, regular reviews and quick wins are often necessary.

Agency relationships

The people we spoke with indicated that they had limited internal resources, and also found that they relied heavily on their agency to support them. This has proven to be challenging, as they also noted the support they need from agencies is often more than the service agreement time they have in place. Participants indicated that agency time would be more beneficial if it enhanced the skills of current employees with training.

User-friendly website administration

Lastly, feedback from internal website and marketing teams centres around the practicality and functionality of their websites. Many teams find their current setup impractical, highlighting a perceived disconnect between expected and delivered outcomes from digital agencies. They recognize the need for changes but are hindered by multiple responsibilities and limited expertise.

Despite these challenges, there is a strong desire to improve and adapt, driven by both internal motivation and external support mechanisms. Many participants emphasised the value of having dedicated teams or reliable agency partners, which helps ensure their websites remain up-to-date and functional.

It’s important to note all participants indicated that their websites would play an important role in their organisation’s future. Some participants see it working in conjunction with their other marketing efforts on social media, while all saw it as an important avenue to get insights on their clients and help build connections.

To help them navigate the future, they highlighted the importance of a clear organisational strategy and alignment of website goals with business objectives.
